The Dublin Economic Development Corporation recently took its first step to aid in the funding for the beautification efforts regarding point of entry signs.
Laura Gambino, representing the Keep Dublin Beautiful board, addressed the EDC board at its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, May 26. Gambino stated though Keep Dublin Beautiful had originally sought funds (about $11,000) for the renovation of the shamrock signs after research was done, the signs really needed replacements.
The signs, which have lasted 20 years, are in need of updating, she said, in order to last another 20 years. Signs Express in Stephenville has quoted the project for about $13,000. The design of the shamrocks would stay the same and the rock bases would be utilized, but the signs themselves would get long-lasting powder coating with highway grade vinyl.
The EDC board unanimously approved the expenditure, however, anything above $10,000 must go through approval at City Council.
The item is set to be heard at a future city council meeting.
The EDC board also granted two additional event grants for the Dublin Chamber of Commerce.
A $4,000 grant was approved for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Celebration. Board Member Lanora Davidson abstained from the motion due to the sale of her business.
A $2,500 grant was approved for the Miss Dublin Pageant. Davidson also abstained from this motion.
The board also unanimously approved a $600 expensed for the Texas Economic Development Council membership renewal.
A discussion about the election of EDC officers was held, and officers are expected to be elected during the June meeting.
