Dublin remembers man of service

Body

Dublin lost a man devoted to his family and community Saturday, June 17 as Jim Harrell, 82, died at his home surrounded by family.

Harrell was the third generation owner of Dublin’s Harrell Funeral Home from 1972-2017 and took over responsibilities from his father, Theodore Page Harrell. This included managing ambulance services for the town until 1976, when the city took them over.

Jim first started working at the funeral home with his father as a mortician in 1963 after earning his license and a Bachelor’s Degree from the Department of Business Administration at Texas Tech.

Jim met the love of his life, Patsy Fine, shortly after high school and the pair were married from 1959 until her death in 2019. The pair were blessed with two children, Andy and Jennifer.

Jim was also devoted to his community and was actively involved in many organizations including the Dublin Hospital Board, Lions Club, the Dublin Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years and the Jaycees, which he served as a member and officer.

Harrell was also a member of the Mr. Magoo Car Club, reflecting his love of building cars.

Jim belonged as a member of Trinity Church in Dublin, which he served as treasurer for more than 50 years.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, June 21 at New Dublin Liveoak Cemetery.
