Council approves alcohol ordinance

The City Council met to discuss several topics including alcoholic beverage sales, the airport contract and other items during their regular meeting on Monday night.

The council unanimously approved the ordinance regulating the sale of alcoholic beverage sales within city limits following the approval of alcohol sales by Dublin voters in November. Council members remarked on the $50 fine for those in violation of the ordinance and asked if that would be enough. Dublin Police Chief Cameron Ray and City Manager Bobby Mendez assured that any business in violation would also find themselves facing stiffer penalties from TABC.

The City Council also addressed a 33 cent rate increase from Waste Connections and approved absorbing the cost for the benefit of city customers.

The City Council approved to begin the hiring process of Colt Jeffres as the new Dublin Municipal Airport manager after the resignation of Brad Stanford. The council also approved the contract between hangar owners/ pilots and the city of Dublin.

Projects will be underway at the park after the council decided to approve to increase the size of the disc golf course from nine holes to 18 holes and the Faith Knights were approved to use the parks baseball field for three upcoming home games. Brycen Kiker spoke on behalf of the Faith Knights and City Manager Bobbby Mendez assured that this posed no conflict with the Baseball Association.

Barrett Wilson was approved as a reserve officer with the Dublin Police Dept.

The Council approved the nominations to several new EDC board members including Monte Thiebaud, Sarah McCann, Dr. Joe Cannon and Darrell Curry. Lanora Davisdon, owner of Things Celtic would be filling the seat of Dr. Joe Cannon while he is on a leave of absence. Curry abstained from the vote.

Eric Bullard was sworn in as a City council member, taking the place of the outgoing Ben Pate.
