7th Brigade Muster, Living History this weekend in Proctor

Those interested in history may want to check out an event hosted by the Central Texas Brigade in Proctor this weekend.

The inaugural fall 7th Brigade Muster and Living History will held Sept. 8-10.

Events will include opening ceremonies with Boy Scouts of America, reenactments and drills including the Battle of Walnut Creek, a Black Powder Turkey Shoot (with a jackpot), horseshoes (with a jackpot), corn hole (with a jackpot) and church under the trees Sunday morning.

The public is welcome to participate in jackpots and all events will be winner takes all.

The living history portion of the event will include blacksmith, 1860s artillery on site, spinning wheel and loom, chuck wagon and primitive camps.

On-site vendors will include a food truck and suttlers tent.

The event is open to public with admission by donation. There are porta- potties on site, along with primitive camping (with no water or electricity). Propane cookers are allowed. Self-contained RV’s are welcome.

There is absolutely no burning or open fires allowed since Comanche County is under a burn ban.

The event will be held on private land off of FM 1476 and marked with flags and banners. From U.S. 377 to Proctor, take South FM 1476, go 1.5 miles and it is the gate on the left. Texas 36 West of Gustine, take north FM 1476 10.7 miles, gate on the right.
