Lions move ball against Brady

The Dublin Lions traveled to Brady Friday, Oct. 10 to take on the Bulldogs and the ball did some travelling of its own aided by the return of quarterback Alex Teten.

Teten, who had been on the injured list since the first scrimmage, was playing his first varsity game of the season as qb and managed to get 305 yards of passing and 32 yards of rushing for the Lions. This rushing play resulted in one of two touchdowns for Dublin.

“He did a good job of finding the receivers,” head Dublin football coach/ athletic director Greg Hardcastle said of Teten adding that he did well on ‘recognizing the coverage and getting the ball to them.’

The other touchdown was brought in by Kyson Gilman, who led in receiving with 157 yards. Julian Caldera followed with 62 yards.

Hardcastle said Brady filled out the frontline with big players so the Lions “had a hard time moving the ball up front.”

Jayden Balvantin went 1 for 2 in PAT kicks, leaving the Lions at 13 to Brady’s 62.

Hardcastle said Dublin was hurt on some turn overs.

“[Brady] were very experienced on the offensive line,” he said. “If we had been able to put some drives together in the third, it would have been a different game.”

Offensively, Kyler Gaitan and Ruben Bustillos led with 7 tackles each followed by Joe Salinas with 6, Edwin Nevarez with 4 and Cayson Loving with 3.

The Lions return home to face the Tolar Rattlers Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. on Cervetto Field. The Rattlers are 2-4 following last week’s loss to Early. Hardcastle said the Tolar team is younger this year after graduating a lot of seniors out.

The JV lions will face the Rattlers in Tolar Oct. 16 at 5 p.m. Ticket sales are online through the Tolar website. Jr. High will play Tolar at the same time on Cervetto Field.
