Lions look to tackle Tigers

The Dublin Lions are looking to tackle some Tigers as they host Anson Friday, Sept. 12.

This follows a 53-7 home loss Friday, Sept. 5 against the Millsap Bulldogs. Lions kept fighting to leash the Bulldog offense but the score crept up through the first quarter. Storm alarms then caused a delay in game.

“That’s always a tough task,” said athletic director/ head football coach Greg Hardcastle. “Have to stop and warm up again and get back into it.”

Despite the score, junior Ruben Bustillos put up some strong numbers, rushing for 87 yards, bringing down nine tackles and score the touchdown. Christian Mendez scored the kick for another point.

Julian Caldera brought down six tackles. Also providing four tackles each were Kyler Gaitan, Hunter Splawn and Jayden Balvantin. Bringing in three tackles each were Hudson Joslin, Christian Mendez and Joe Salinas.

Hardcastle said the Lions were focusing on improving key aspects of their game this week and had a good practice Monday as they identified areas to work on.

He added that Dublin matches up well with what Anson does defensively, but with a strong group of returners, the home team will need to bring the fight as they face off at 7 p.m. on Cervetto Field.
