The Dublin Lady Lions bested Jonesboro 39-29 in a Tuesday, Nov. 19 away game.
“It was a rough one,” admitted Dublin head girls basketball coach Kim Perez. “We hustled the entire game. Defense was good and shots were falling.”
Perez said she was proud of her team for keeping composure amidst the screaming of officials and parents in the heated battle.
Leading the scoring for Dublin were Olivia Salyer with 15 points and Derby Kukla with 14. NavaLee White and Adriana Stewart each scored three while Ingrid Hernandez had 2 and Emma Vargas scored 1.
The Lady Lions ended the week at the Hamilton Tournament where they went 3-1.
Perez said the showing was “not exactly what we wanted but we did learn several things over the three days.”
In their first game, The Lady Flions fell 44-21 to Gordon. Stewart led scoring with 5 points while White, Salyer and Salyer had 4 each and Hernandez and Adriana Rosalez had 2.
Dublin rebounded in the second game by beating Aquila 44-41 in overtime. Salyer scored 13, White had 11, Rosalez scored 9, Vargas scored 6, Wendy Calderon had 3 and Haiden Keilers scored 2.
Game three was a rematch with Huckabay which the Indians claimed 58-14. White led Dublin with 7, Stewart and Vargas had 3 each and Salyer had 1.
The Lady Lions’ final tourney game was against Valley Mills who edged out Dublin 37-35. Perez said game four was good for Dublin as the team was scoring and playing good defense although they suffered due to bad decisions and fouling at the end. Salyer led scoring with 16, White had 8, Vargas had 6, Steward had 4 and Rosalez had 1.
