Dublin Lions fans who braved the rain were treated to the first victory of the season when they bested the Mavericks 57-7 in Eastland.
“Overall, we played well,” said head football coach/ athletic director Greg Hardcastle. “Defense had a good plan. They were able to hit a few passes on us but they’re predominantly a run team and we were able to shut that down.”
Hardcastle also said offense stayed strong on the field giving quarterback Alex Teten “all the time he needed to throw the ball.”
Teten had 371 yards of passing for the game. On the receiving end, Kyson Gilman had 139 yards and ran in 4 touchdowns. Huden Joslin scored 133 yards in receiving and brought in 2 TDs. Julian Caldera also grabbed 54 yards in receiving.
Joe Salinas, led in rushing with 50 yards and ran one through the endzone.
Edwin Nevarez, who led in defense with 12 tackles had the other TD. Hunter Splawn and Westin Rollins had 7 and 6 tackles respectively.
Rollins was also joined by Cayson Loving and Jayden Balvantin each getting a sack.
Christian Mendez was 4/4 in PAT kicks while Balvantin went 3/3.
Hardcastle commended his team on moving the ball and getting a lot more stops on opponents in recent weeks. If the Lions capitalize on this, they can walk away with a senior night win as they host Clifton Friday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m.
Senior night festivities will be held before the game at 6:25 p.m.
