The Dublin Lions are Bi-District Champions following an 85-82 nailbiter victory against Holliday at Weatherford High School Saturday night.

“This is our fifth straight year in the playoffs; it’s nice to be on the winning side,” said Dublin Lions Head Basketball Coach Will Parker, who reported that the team’s last playoff victory was in 2017.

The Saturday triumph was decided in overtime as both teams fought hard. Many Lions fans on social media joked that the game was ‘bad for their blood pressure.’

Parker credited all of his team for the win, highlighting Daniel Escobar’s 35 points, Cooper Hubble’s rebounds and Christian Ramirez who has shown a lot of recent improvement in “getting into the paint and not chucking in a bunch of threes.”

Parker also offered his gratitude to Dublin JV players like Joel Escobar, Mosiah Lolohea, Ty Roberts, Wyatt Watson and Payton Williams for helping fill out the bench and practicing with varsity to keep them sharp.

“They’re the unsung heroes,” Parker said.

The Lions were set to travel to advance in the next playoff game Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Wall in the Brownwood Coliseum at Howard Payne University.

Parker said that Wall ‘looks a lot like Holliday’ in play style and strengths, saying they run a “man to man defense and they’re going to try to keep us running.”

Parker said his team is most complimented by other coaches for its speed and ability to get the other team running. The Lions are poised for the attack and hungry for another playoff win.
