The Lingleville Cardinals have claimed an undefeated district record for the first time since 1985, from what people have told Head Basketball Coach Steven Bailey.

This comes after a 79-32 home victory over Bluff Dale Friday and a 66-25 away win over Strawn on Feb. 2. The Cardinals are no. 1 in their district and 13th in the state for Divison 1A as they head into playoffs. (Playoff game information was not available at press time.)

“Lipan owned [the district] for a long time, but since they moved up to 2A, it opened it up for us,” Bailey said.

“I scheduled the preseason tough for us- 2As and 3As, ranked,” he continued. “We had a gambit of tough schools to face although we didn’t get to play them all [due to COVID].”

Bailey also said being 11 deep has helped the Cards in conquering every competitor on the district schedule.

Bailey said he couldn’t pick a proudest moment as a coach this season, reporting that his players make him proud every day.

“There’s not one of these kids that doesn’t root for the other,” Bailey said. “No one cares who scores. They care that we score.”

“There’s not one one bit of selfishness,” he added. They are selfless.”
