Dublin High School poerlifters picked up some strong finishes during the annual invitational powerlifting meet Saturday.

The boys’ team was three points from a first-place finish as they had racked up 38 to Stephenville’s 41.

DHS Coach Greg Hardcastle boasted that his boys had more first place finishes than any of the other six teams present.

These included:

Lisandro Ortiz, who lifted a total of 685 pounds in the 114 weight class

Arnoldo Moreno, who lifted a total of 805 in the 132 weight class

Luis Ordonez, who lifted a total of 1,075 pounds in the 181 weight class

Victor Juarez, who lifted 1,220 pounds in the 275 weight class

Celelste Alvarez, who qualified for state last year before the pandemic cut the season short, picked up a first-place finish in the 220 weight class after lifting a total of 830 pounds. Her finish assisted in a third place rank (out of seven teams) for the girls

“It was a great start to the season,” said Hardcastle, who said they are looking to find places to compete and gain experience before the next scheduled meet on Feb. 13. “We are looking forward to growing and improving.”

Also placing high for the Dublin boys were:

Mosiah Lolohea, 2nd in the 242 weight class with a total of 1,265 pounds

Michael Stanley, third in the 220 with a total of 1,245 pounds

Roger Adair, 4th in the 275 with a total of 1,035 pounds

Elijah Gonzales, 10th in the 140 with 780 pounds

Coach Hardcastle reported that although the meet was smaller than in years past, it was still a successful community event as the school hosted 120- 130 lifters. He thanked parents, the Dublin Athletic Booster club, Dublin Rotary and other volunteers who helped in organizing and serving students and guests.
