THURMAN

Body

Maurene Thurman Maurene Turney Thurman, aged 89, has found peace after a short and sudden illness, joining her beloved husband Herbert Thurman and her Lord. She passed away Aug. 4, 2025 and was born Dec. 16, 1935.

For the past 15 years, she deeply missed Herbert, cherishing every moment they had spent together. Maurene was a devoted family woman, who loved playing Dominoes with her great-granddaughter Lilly and singing songs about Jesus to her granddaughters. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a cherished member of the Wilshire Park Baptist Church in Midland, where her smile was a constant presence.

Dublin, Texas, held a special place in Maurene’s heart, whether she was visiting friends and family or enjoying the serenity of Lake Proctor with Herbert. She was known for her delicious homemade treats, including Brownies, Texas Sheet Cake, Potato patties, and butter cookies. Her affection extended to Andrea’s dog, Tucker, whom she lovingly called her ‘Little Tuck Tuck’. In her later years, Maurene found joy in tending to her garden and watching her flowers bloom, and she never lost her fondness for Dublin Dr Pepper.

Maurene is survived by her daughter Cathy Dawson and her husband Dale, her granddaughters Andrea Dawson and Chantel Chiu with her husband Thomas, and her great-grandchildren Lilly, Laina, and Collin. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews with whom she cherished frequent conversations. Preceding her in death are her mother Emma Turney, her siblings Bob Turney, Wendell Turney, Lamonine Turner, and Christine Northcutt. Maurene’s legacy of love, faith, and family will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug.9, 2025, at Harrell Funeral Home with graveside services following at 11 a.m. at the New Dublin Liveoak Cemetery.
