Edith Irene Southerland, 82, passed away Friday, June 24, 2022 in Dublin, Texas. Edith was born on Sept. 4, 1938 in Brad, Texas and moved to Breckenridge, Texas when she was two years old.

She grew up there and, at age 14, met the love of her life, Bob Southerland. They married on April 29, 1955.

The Navy took them to Pensacola, Florida where her twin boys, Robert and John were born. They moved to Bedford, Texas, in 1963, which is where her boys grew up.

She doted on her children and her skills in the kitchen were legendary. She cooked from her heart and her sons fondly remember her fried chicken and German Chocolate cake, among many other wonderful dishes.

In 1994, they moved to their beloved farm, near Dublin, Texas, where they raised cows, pot belly pigs and an assortment of other animals. All of these animals were deeply loved by Edith, each of which hadnames and became cherished pets. They adopted stray dogs and kittens and even some raccoons.

Even though her sons were grown by then, many wonderful family times were had at the farm, where the grandchildren experienced a magical childhood place of refuge. There were butterfly bushes to admire, almost 90 acres to explore and, of course, there was Gram.

Edith was a deeply kind, compassionate and generous person who was extremely devoted to her Lord, her family and to helping others. She and her husband were long time members of Purves Baptist Church.

She had a very sensitive soul and could not even read a greeting card without shedding tears because she was so moved by them. She was the kind of person with whom you could lazily swing for hours on the porch swing, laughing belly laughs, while she made you feel much cherished and time flew by.

She was an extremely special person, well loved and admired by all who knew her and will be missed terribly until we meet again in Heaven.

Edith is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bob Southerland, her son Robert Leslie Southerland II and his wife Beth Southerland and her son John Lamar Southerland and his wife Leanne Southerland. She had three grandchildren; Kyle Southerland, Sarah Mokwa and Daniel Southerland and four greatgrandchildren: Liam Southerland, Lila Southerland, Kaden Mokwa and Kullen Mokwa.
