On Friday, Sept. 2, 2022, Leon Roberson, beloved husband and dad, passed away at United Regional Hospital in Wichita Falls, Texas at 97 years old.
His funeral was held at the Lingleville Baptist Church Saturday, Sept.10 with Dr. Ryan Vanderland officiating.
Leon was born in Dublin, Texas to his parents Julius Calvin and Mattie Roberson on June 23, 1925. His childhood was spent on the family farm.
He attended Lingleville ISD, where he graduated. Leon joined the U.S. Navy in January 1944 and served two years before returning home and meeting his future wife, Sarah Ruth Goodman, at a Lingleville basketball game. The two were married on July 30, 1946, and eventually welcomed four children together.
Leon worked at several different jobs in the area farming, baling hay, and service station attendant. They moved to Odessa, Texas and lived most of their married life there, where he worked for Waffa Platter.
He also worked as a convenience store manager, delivered ice cream, and held several oil field related jobs. He retired from Land and Marine Rental and moved back to Dublin, until 2006 when he moved closer to his daughter in Electra, Texas.
Leon enjoyed gardening and canning vegetables with his wife Ruth. He also loved to go camping and fishing with his family and friends. Leon and some of his friends were known to play music way into the night. He mainly played the guitar and sang.
Leon was a craftsman which showcased things like shadow boxes, China cabinets, miniature replicas of his old family home, doll furniture and quilt racks that had cows, dogs, and heart themes to just name a few.
Leon is survived by his four children, Patsy and Jimmie Rich, Charles Roberson, Larry and Dana Roberson, and Leon Jr. and Cara Roberson. He has 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and nine great- greatgrandchildren.
Preceding Leon in death is his wife Sarah Ruth Roberson, his parents Julius Calvin and Mattie Roberson, his daughterin- law Mary Roberson, sister Vera Roberson, brother Grady Roberson, brothers and sisters-inlaws J.C. and Ernestine Roberson and Marcus and Maida Roberson.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be made to the West End Cemetery in Lingleville, Texas.
