Martha Sue Brown, a long-time resident of Fort Worth, went to be with her Heavenly Father, Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021 at the age of 88.
Funeral service was 12 p.m. Friday in Mount Olivet Chapel, interment to follow. Visitation was 6 to 8 p.m. Mount Olivet Chapel.
She was born Aug. 15, 1932, in the Roch Community near Dublin, TX to Cicero Taylor and Charles Etta Thompson.
Sue graduated from Newman High School in Sweetwater, TX in 1949 and was named salutatorian of her class. She met and married Bill Brown in Sweetwater. They were happily married 68 years until his death in 2019. She began her career with Montgomery Ward shortly after graduation and continued with the company in various locations while Bill was in military service. She worked in the Accounting Dept. and quickly worked her way up to Supervisor. She retired in 1986 after 37 years.
Throughout her life, she pursued her love of music by participating in the A Capella Chorus, various church choirs, and playing the piano in church and anytime she was asked and at family gatherings. She and her brother, Tommy, traveled to sing and lead music during summer revivals. She also spent many hours creating beautiful crochet pieces.
Sue enjoyed square dancing and traveling and visited all 50 states, Mexico, Germany, the Caribbean, and Israel. She was a member of Springdale and Ridgecrest Baptist churches. Most of all she loved her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents, CT and Charles Etta Thompson; brothers, Gerald and wife, Orene, CT, Jr., Gayle, Tommy and wife, Margaret, and Alan Thompson; and sister, Mary Wade and husband, Bill; and granddaughter, Stephanie Vinson.
She is survived by daughter, Phyllis and husband, Larry Vinson of Amarillo; and son, Jeffrey Brown of Fort Worth; and granddaughter, Kristin Vinson and husband, Mitchell Jefferis of Grand Prairie; sister-in-law, Ann Thompson of Dublin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Due to health concerns, the family requests that guests be mindful of their allergies to strongly scented products.
