Library Log

Body

This is your reminder to set your clocks ahead on Sunday since it’s time to ‘Spring Forward’ in Daylight Savings.

With Spring springing in, the Dublin Public Library has several activities for those looking to get outside.

Take a stroll in the Story Walk

Visitors to the Library in the past few months have likely noticed stands dotting the grounds.

Each of these stands house pages from a different spotlight book in the ‘Story Walk’ provided through a grant from the Hancher Foundation.

Parents can visit each stand with their child (starting with the cover, either telling them the story or letting them read the current book on display as they walk around.)

The current book on display is “The Little Excavator” by Anna Dewdney.

From the cover: “From New York Times bestselling author-illustrator of the Llama Llama books comes a new character ready to dig his way into your heart!

“Here come the BIG RIGS rolling down the street. Thumpa-thumpa bumpa-bumpa BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! “There’sLoaderandDump Truck, Backhoe and Crane. They’re ready to transform a vacant lot into a neighborhood park. And who wants to help most of all?

“Little Excavator! But are there any jobs for someone so small?

“AnnaDewdney’ssignature rhyming text and inviting illustrations make this a perfect read aloud for fans of things that go!”

After checking out the story, kids can go inside where there are fun activities and props tied to the book’s theme in the Iona Kloster Memorial Children’s Center.

The book may be known to many Dublin kids already as it is a featured selection from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

The program provides a free monthly book to every enrolled child from birth to age 5.

The program is available to any child in the Dublin ZIP code (76446).

Thanks in part to grants from the Dublin EDC, the library has been able to provide the program to local kids since 2014.

There are currently 140 enrolled in the program in Dublin and 325 have graduated out off it.

For adults looking to MAKE the most of the season, the library has a community garden available for planting flowers and produce. There are currently nine plots available.
