Bah Humbug.
That was my sentiment as this past weekend rolled around.
I realize everyone associates grinches with Christmas but a lot of Halloween planning and nitty gritty details had left me with little of the “spirit” left.
This led me to drag my feet on purchasing a costume for a party on Saturday night. So I threw on a t-shirt featuring a vampire and called it good.
I was asked often who I was. I responded, “Paul.”
I ended up having fun seeing friends and little by little, I regretted not “showing up” for the party when it first began.
When Halloween officially came on Monday, I enjoyed seeing all the cute and creepy costumes adorned by children and grown-ups alike. The families dressed up to go trick or treating are great, but there is especially something endearing about people who wear a costume to work.
It brings the community that much closer when they celebrate together and it’s hard to forget about a holiday when your waiter is a serial killer or your insurance agent is dressed up like a blind referee.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with not dressing up for the holiday but I had let the daily grind dampen my seasonal spirit.
Wyndi showed me Facebook post about how people ‘get it right’ on Halloween, because we greet our neighbors and welcome them on our porch before sharing treats with them.
I would add that the costumes also allow people to express themselves and show their creativity. There’s also nothing wrong with people showing their silly side together.
Life is often serious enough. Don’t let the chances to be silly slip by.
