3 fatalities in area over weekend

Department of Public Safety officers reported three Erath Count accidents involving fatalities over the weekend.

On Friday, Sept. 9 at approximately 3:15 a. m., Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers investigated a fatality crash on US 377, six miles northeast of Stephenville. According to DPS reports, preliminary investigation indicates a 2015 Honda Civic, driven by Brandon J. Brinkman, 21, of San Angelo, was traveling north on US 377.

The Honda failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The vehicle left the roadway, struck a culvert, then overturned. Brinkman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

On Friday at 11:45 p. m., DPS troopers investigated a fatality crash on Business 377 approximately half a mile east of Stephenville. Preliminary reports indicated a 2011 Honda Civic, driven by Delaney M. Boyd, 21, of Vanderpool, was traveling west on Business 377 while a motorized scooter, operated by Alfred B. Cortez, 81, of Stephenville, was traveling east on Business 377 on the westbound shoulder.

The reports stated the Honda struck the scooter on the westbound shoulder, and Cortez was pronounced deceased at the scene. On Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022 at approximately 4:35 p. m., troopers were called to investigate a one vehicle fatality crash on US 281 approximately two miles north of Hico.

Preliminary investigation indicated a 2020 GMC pickup was traveling north on US 281. DPS reported the GMC veered into the southbound lane for an undetermined reason, then left the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver of the GMC, 37-year-old Cole Robert McCown, of Roanoke, was transported to a local hospital he died from his injuries.
