A called meeting of the city council was held at the city hall last Monday morning and upon recommendation of Mayor J.S. Daley, the office of city recorder was created and Dr. W.B. Goodner was elected to that position. Under the law the mayor of Dublin is exoffi cio city recorder and Mr. Dailey has been serving in that capacity since his election as mayor two years ago.

His absence at Stamford most of the time now, which situation is to continue, prompted him to recommend to the council the election of a city recorder that matters for the prompt enforcement of the law might be pursued.

Dr. Goodner has had experience in this position while mayor of Dublin some years ago and is a man thoroughly in favor of law and order and the proper enforcement thereof and he and the mayor are in accord in the desire to at all times enforce the law without fear or favor.

The Dublin Lions open the 1972 season this Friday in Gorman at 8 p.m.

“The kids have worked hard in preparation for our first game. Their attitude has been great. I’ve never enjoyed working with a group of kids more than these,” said Coach Harris.

“Physically we will be in pretty good shape with no serious injuries resulting from our work so far and the two scrimmages. We must have a good week of preparation for Gorman. They have a fiery bunch of kids who hit well.”

The Comanche law firm of Ben D. Sudderth has been hired by the City of Dublin as special advisor “on matters concerning past and present internal affairs of the city.”

The 4-3 vote to hire Sudderth, a former Comanche city attorney, came after a tension-filled 50-minute meeting Monday night.

Shortly after the meeting, Sudderth told a group of reporters that his “gut feeling” is that the city’s contract with former city manager Tom Winder is not valid. He indicated that he may recommend that the city join the Citizens for a Better Dublin to seek a judge’s ruling on the contract’s validity. The citizen’s group has stalled the council payment of $50,000 to Winder while a determination is made on the contract by District Judge Don Jones.
