Col. James now brigade commander

Colonel Jeremy W. James, a 1993 Dublin High School graduate, has recently been promoted to the rank of brigade commander.

Colonel James’s military career started when he received his commission as an Aviation Officer in 1998 from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York.

After completing initial flight training, he reported to the 1-52nd Aviation Regiment at K-16, South Korea where he served as a UH-60 Assault Company Executive Officer and as the Battalion S-2.

His next assignment was to Stetson Troop, 4th Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Carson, Colorado where he served as a UH-60 Platoon Leader and Troop Executive Officer.

Col. James transitioned to fixed wing aviation in 2002 and after completing the Military Intelligence Captain’s Career Course, he reported to the 3rd Military Intelligence Battalion (Aerial Exploitation) at Camp Humphreys, South Korea.

While at the 3rd Military Intelligence Battalion, Col. James served as the Battalion A/S3 and then as the Bravo Company Commander (Guardrail).

After company command, Col. James attended graduate school at Texas A&M University and returned to West Point to serve as an Assistant Professor in the Department of History.

Following this assignment, he deployed to OEF as the S3 for the newly formed TF ODIN-Afghanistan.

In 2011, Col. James attended Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and then reported to the 1st Military Intelligence Battalion ( Aerial Exploitation) in Wiesbaden, Germany.

While in Germany, he served as the 1st Military Intelligence Battalion Executive Officer and as the Chief of Operations at the European Cryptologic Center in Darmstadt before again deploying to serve as the Brigade S3 for Joint Task Force ODIN.

In 2016, Col. James assumed command of the15th Military Intelligence Battalion ( Aerial Exploitation) at Fort Hood, Texas. During his tenure, the unit tested, fielded, and deployed both the MC-12 EMARSS and MQ-1C Gray Eagle to multiple overseas locations in support of SECDEF priorities.

Following command, Col. James served in the INSCOM G3 Air and Sensor Division as the Chief of Aviation before attending the National War College at Fort McNair, Washington, DC.

After Senior Service College, he served as the Deputy Director of Intelligence, J23 and then as the Vice Deputy Director of Defense Collection Management, J26 within the Joint Staff J2.

He will be serving at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia. He and his wife Robyn have four children.

He is the son of Beth Stewart James and the late Gary W. James.
