The Comanche Chief In a recent meeting, the Texas Historical Commission voted to award Texas Historic Court-house Preservation Program funding to Comanche County for the development of architectural plans and specifications for the Comanche County courthouse. This is the first step should the county choose to engage in any needed repairs or restoration to the courthouse building. This good news was received by County Judge Stephanie L. David from Mark Wolfe, Executive Director of the Texas Historical Commission.
The grant was awarded in the amount of $928,061 for design and planning documents for courthouse repairs and renovations.
Hamilton Herald-News Entries for the 50th annual Miss Hamilton County Dove Festival Pageant are due by Aug. 12. So far, 30 beauties have signed up to vie for crowns in eight divisions. The 2022 pageant will be held Saturday, Aug. 27 at 6 p.m. in the Chandler Craig Auditorium at Hamilton High School. Winners will receive tiaras, sashes, jewelry gifts, flowers and prizes. The Dove Queen will be awarded a $1,500 scholarship.
Many Hamilton citizens are seeing red after receiving their July energy billing statements. Customers reported unusually lower bills for the months May and June but in July their bills are doubling, tripling and in some cases quadrupling. According to the Texas-New Mexico Power website, AT&T informed TNMP in 2019 that it would discontinue operating its 3G network in February 2022, meaning the utility meters would have to be upgraded to continue to communicate electronically.
Hico News-Review Chainsaw carving artist Cam Dockery has finished the last of four tree trunk sculptures in Hico City Park. Dockery, from Whitharral in the Texas panhandle, was commissioned several months ago by the Hico Economic Development Corporation to improve the park by turning old tree stumps into works of art.
The first two carvings were of American eagles. The last pair, just finished, is of a Hico Tiger head and a war veterans memorial featuring a helmet, rifle and combat boots.
