Steel framing is in place for a new building on Hwy. 220 next to Dollar General. It is another property bought and being developed by Fort Worth businessman Clay Mazur, who has purchased approximately a dozen buildings and properties in the downtown Hico area in less than a year. They include Jersey Lilly Restaurant, the old Lonnie and Mabel’s building and the old theatre building (all on the downtown esplanade), plus several connected properties on North Railroad.

From haircuts and school supplies to new shoes, local businesses are teaming up to make sure local students are ready to head back to school.
For the seventh year, Andrea Fletcher, hair stylist at Rejuvenation Station, is offering back to school haircuts for kids at no charge on Saturday, Aug. 6 from 8 a.m. to noon.
Haircuts are first come first served. No appointments will be taken.

In the aftermath of the Uvalde school shooting tragedy that occurred two months ago, DeLeon ISD took steps Monday night to counteract the potential of the same sort of tragedy occurring in DeLeon Schools.
All members of the DeLeon ISD School Board met last Monday night to discuss the potential for arming teachers in DeLeon schools.
The meeting opened with an immediate withdrawal into closed session to discuss service provided by Tac-Pro representatives who remained in the session with the board. Tac-Pro is a Mingusbased firearms training facility. After many public comments and an additional closed session, the board approved in a 6-1 vote in open session to engage Tac-Pro Services.

CCMC staff and community volunteers commit many hours each month to coordinate the Comanche County Mobile Food Pantry of the Food Bank of West Central Texas. It is an essential food program for residents in need. Food is delivered on the last Thursday morning of the month at Comanche City Park at 7:30 a.m. and De Leon City Park at 10:30 a.m.
