Dublin’s all-star team received the silver in the three-day little league tournament that ended July 22. Hamilton took top honors and DeLeon received third.

The little league field was reportedly looking fine for the event thanks to the donation of 1,500 pounds of fertilizer by Gene Thompson of Poston Feed Store and Harry Bradberry of Farmers Feed Store as well as water donated by the city to keep the grass green.

Former scoutmaster Wade Cowan and former scout Eddie Leatherwood shared a memory of taking the hike in the mid-60s as scouts and parents prepared, saying the troop several decades before discovered a watermelon patch on the route and tried to sneak in a snack that made several sick by the time they stopped to camp in the evening.
