With school returning soon, a wide variety of fun (and free) events are scheduled for Saturday, July 30 at the Dublin Public Library and City Park.
The Dublin Public Library will host its Back-to-School Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the library. One perk as part of the Back-to-School Bash will be a free splash day at the pool from noon until 5 p.m. sponsored by Kingdom Movement.
As part of the event, there will be free give-a-ways available to Dublin kids. (The winning child must be present at the event to claim the prize.)
There will be free hot dogs provided by the Dublin Lions Club and free ice cream from Dublin Dairy Queen. All items are first come, first serve.
Foam will be on site for kids to play in and first responders will be on hand with their ride for a “touch-atruck” event.
As part of the event, summer readers can turn in their reading logs by 2 p.m. and receive three free books and three prizes.
Donations are also being sought from the event including: makeup/ pencil bags, new socks/ underwear, individually wrapped snacks and hygiene items. Items can be dropped off at the Dublin Public Library, Dairy Queen, Central Inn and Little Authors by Wednesday, July 27.
These items will be distributed at the fair in lieu of school supplies since Dublin ISD is taking care of school supplies for students this year.
Dublin’s City Park will also be a hoppin’ place on July 30 with a car show and barbecue cookoff sponsored by the Stephenville Elks Lodge.
The second annual Drug Awareness Program Car Show will be from
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the park with awards from 3:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Awards will be presented for pre-1950s, 1950-1970, 1970-1990, post 1990 and more.
“We are still looking for more cars,” organizer James Dunbar said. “The more, the merrier.”
A sanctioned barbecue cookoff will be held in the park with an 80/20 payout with an extra $1,300 added to the pot. The 20 percent remaining goes back to charity.
“We raise money for disabled veterans and special needs/less fortunate children,” Elks Lodge member Brittany Hallock said. Entry fee is $200. The cookoff is promoted by champions barbecue alliance and The Barbecue Store. There will also be a 50/50 drawing and a veterans dunk tank to raise money for local veterans. There will be kids games available and vendors.
Judges are needed for the barbecue cookoff and a variety of time slots are available. To sign up for judging call Dani at 405-496-7674.
Also, taking place is the annual Morgan Mill Ice Cream Freeze Off from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 30 at the Morgan Mill Community Center.
There will be a homemade ice cream contest and barbecue lunch presented by Harmony Lodge 592.
