Local cowgirl Kassie Mowry received international attention when she and her horse Emmet (aka Famous Ladies Man) claimed the 2022 Calgary Stampede Rodeo Championships on Sunday and set the record in barrel racing for the Canadian arena.
She claimed the record after stopping the clock at 16.86 seconds in Round 4 of Pool B. The previous record was 16.99 by Hailey Kinsel in 2019.
Afterward, she gave all of the credit to her Famous Ladies Man.
The pair followed this record-breaking performance with two 16-second runs on Sunday to claim the champion title.
Heading into Calgary, Mowry was in 17th position with $38,965.99 after just 13 rodeos. Since half of her $50,000 winnings from Calgary count towards the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association standings, this win will launch her into the top five in the world.
