Hico Police Chief Ronnie Ashmore is resigning next month and leaving his career in law enforcement. Ashmore has serves as Chief for over six years and brought an era of stability to the post in that time.

An accomplished writer of numerous crime books and westerns, Ashmore said he would pursue that interest and also work in the real estate field.

Ashmore is a native of Jonesboro and lifelong resident of the area. He said he still plans to reside in Hico.

The Hico Civic Club has named Rusty Cryer as 2022 Citizen of the Year.

The Hico native retired in June after 29 years working on the Hico ISD maintenance staff and driving a school bus. Cryer is one of the best known and liked members of the community, always first in line to help with church or school or town projects. He has served on the Hico Volunteer Fire Department for more than 30 years and still drives a fire department tanker truck.

The Comanche Chief

Please consider this as a public information notice that as of Monday, July 11, CR 4981 in Comanche County will be temporarily closed to through traffic to allow for reconstruction of the bridge structure at that location.

The detour will be to CR 4975 to CR 4973 to CR 497 to CR 4981. Construction is expected to last approximately two months. These county roads are located between DeLeon and Desdemona.

Civil Associates, Inc., a management, planning, environmental and civil engineering and design company specializing in public facilities, transportation and infrastructure, is hosting kick-off meetings July 13 and Aug. 10 for local elected officials regarding the US 281 Widening Project and Relief Route.

The meeting will introduce the scope of the project, which includes the widening of High-way 281 to four lanes between Hico and Evant and evaluating the addition of a Hamilton Relief Route.

A series of public meetings for the project is expected in the fall.

Lexie Feist was introduced as Comanche County Medical Center’s new Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), who recently started in May. Lexie has made Comanche her home for the last 40 years after marrying her high school sweetheart Dendy. Lexie has raised three sons, and is now the proud grandmother of six.
