July 25, 1947

Earl E. Smith of Ranger was announced as the minister leading the revival at Grafton Street Church of Christ starting July 27.

Kenneth Huff, secretary of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce and Development Club, stated that an exceptionally large crowd of rural and towns people are expected to attend the big free barbecue meal and program set for Aug. 1 at the Colborn Bowl.

More than 250 Rotarians from 12 West Texas towns were present for a charter presentation banquet in Dublin. Cities represented included: Fort Worth, Stephenville, Granbury, Bowie, Mineral Wells, Breckenridge, Graham, Sweetwater, Stamford, Brownwood, Abilene and Eastland.

The Midway Rodeo was ongoing at the new arena at the J.B. Mayfield Ranch on the Dublin-Stephenville Highway. The showing included a Thursday parade in Stephenville featuring many cowboy horses and rodeo personnel. Porter Randall, a Fort Worth radio newscaster, was acting as radio announcer while the Lee O’Daniel Band was providing live music.

July 20, 1972

Charlie M. Moore retired after 37 years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Soil Conservation Service. The Dublin native had a civil engineering degree from the University of Texas and a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard. He had been with Fort Worth regional office since 1944 and served as engineering zone conservationist, head of the engineering design section, materials testing and watershed planning.

Dublin FFA members attending the state convention included: Bill Campbell, Dan Kennedy, Pat Leatherwood and Archie Elmore (who served as a member of the courtesy corps for the c o n v e n t i o n ) . Accompanying them on the trip were supervisors Danny Prater and Weldon Whitehead. Whitehead was set to receive a 10 year award at the annual Texas Education In-Service meeting of vocational agriculture teachers in Fort Worth.

Dublin boys playing in team one and team two in the Dublin Little League All-Star Tournament were: Rickey Moncrief, Larry Knapp, Pat Johnson, Mark Loving, Bennie Rice, Ronnie Strube, Jeff Pate, Mike Jones, Randy Forsom, Jerry Dale Stone, Bret Greenway, Richard Johnson, Gaylan Dempsey, Dan Pair, Curtis Starnes, Blake Reeder, Gary Bear, Steve Johnson, Sammy Taylor, Jerry Palmore, Robbie Duncan, Kenneth Wooten and Steve Tolliver.

Early voting was ongoing in a constitutional amendment election to increase the homestead exemption by $10,000 and providing for the transfer of the limitation to another qualified homestead for persons over 65.
