The Ranger Junior Chamber of Commerce was holding its second annual rodeo and roundup with Dublin’s Howard Brown as director of the show. The event was set for July 30-Aug. 1 at the Jaycee’s $30,000 rodeo arena in Ranger with over $3,000 in prizes to be awarded.
The Dublin Masonic Lodge installed the following new officers: Paul Warren (Senior Warden), L.M. McCarty (Junior Warden), W.R. Tanner (Senior Deacon), J.T. Brown (Junior Deacon), H.E. Fisher (Secretary), J.B. Hallmark (Treasurer), L.A. Johnagin (Tiler), E.C. Gilbert and Chas. Nelson (Stewards).
Fire of an undetermined origin destroyed the Santa Fe Railroad bridge at Harbin on June 30, The destruction was reported at 6 a.m. and crews were immediately dispatched and had it repaired where trains could ‘creep’ over the 100-foot bridge.
Friends and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. R.R. Looney gathered at Alexander Park on Sunday, June 22 to celebrate the couple’s 60 th anniversary.

The Dublin J. High cheerleaders were awarded the ‘spirit stick’ and five blue ribbons at the first session of the Tarleton State College Cheerleaders Clinic. Squad members were Johanna Chick, Debra Chick, Debra Pendleton, Luanne Leatherwood, Rayanne King, Karen Thiebaud, Myra Tompson, Brenda Campbell and Kelly Blanton.
Don Weems returned home after serving four years in the Navy. Weems served on the USS Ashtabula, as a radio man, carrying fuel, water and other needed cargo to the war zone.
A group of 18 youths and sponsors from Second Baptist Church in Dublin attended the Baptist Encampment at Lake Brownwood. They included: David Boyd, Robert Pettijohn, Stevie Barbee, Royce Warren, Connie Gasaway, Linda Elliott, Cynthia Martin, Judy Wise, Mary Evelyn Southall, Teresa Shafer, Jane Fox, Ana Fox and Pam Blanton.

July 10, 1997
A late night fire on July 10 completely destroyed an unoccupied residence in the Cottonwood community on highway 6. The fire was located a mile south of Cottonwood Baptist Church and flames were visible from the city limits. The source of the fire was not yet determined.
The Dublin ISD School Board voted to eliminate the in-town bus route as it grew quickly from 50 to 250 students in the first year. With limited resources, the route was restricted to elementary students, but the count remained around 200. Supt. Roy Neff reported the district would have to add another bus and driver if it continued and tax payers would have to foot the bill.
