DeeCee McDougal stepped up to the role of Lingleville ISD Superintendent almost exactly two years after joining the district as principal although it wasn’t a move she initially planned.

“I was not initially thinking about it,” she confirmed, but when it became apparent that Curt Haley was getting ready to retire, she wanted to make sure that recent progress continued.

“I care so much about this district,” she said. “I didn’t want any momentum to be lost. I’m proud of the student progress. Our staff and students really embrace the culture of excellence.” McDougal

McDougal pointed to recent achievements in both athletics and academics in UIL in pointing out these successes and she is also appreciative of the involvement of the PTO, athletic Booster Club and the committee heading the athletics facilities plan in working to ensure progress for the future of the district.

“It will be very exciting to see how that develops over the next few years,” she said.

McDougal reports that Haley has provided a lot of valuable insight as she stepped up to the Superintendent Position May 31 and she has also been gaining knowledge through training from Texas Association of School Administrators and the Education Service Center.

McDougal said there are many considerations that she and the school administrators take into account and constantly work to improve with an obvious one in light of recent events in Texas being school safety. McDougal said she thinks that LISD is ”ahead of the curve” but they’re always thinking of best practices. She said the district will also be working to support mental health and development.

“We want students to be safe and happy every day because that’s how they succeed,” McDougal said.

McDougal came to the Lingleville principal position in June 2020 after getting her Master’s Degree. Brownwood native taught in Comanche for five years, acted as teacher and Section 504/ADA coordinator for Brock and was ESL/ dyslexic supervisor for Henderson Junior High in Stephenville. She and her husband, Jamie, have a daughter, Kambria.

At the June school board meeting, the district hired Brian Sanders as principal (as well as Jacob Bowers as science teacher and coach).
