Summertime fun is on the horizon with several events scheduled for Saturday, June 11 including a race, local author showcase and Dublin reunion.
Dublin Lions Club is hosting the 21st annual Irish Stampede in honor of local dairy farmers since June is Dairy month.
The run, a 10-5-2K race, will be on a certified course with the 10 and 5K races to start at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday and the 2K race to follow when those races are complete. Registration will take place Friday night and start again at 6 a.m. Saturday at the Dublin Public Library.
The first 200 entries will receive a specially designed t-shirt and medal, and top three winners in different age categories will receive prizes including cash and drinks from Dublin Bottling Works.
Registration is $30 per person for the 5K and 10K and $20 for the 2K.
Proceeds will go to support the activities of the Dublin
Lions Club throughout the coming year such as sending physically challenged and diabetic children, at no charge, to a week-long Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville, hosting an ice cream float party for over 450 kids at camp and working with elementary students to reveal undetected eye problems.
The Dublin Public Library will be hosting its local author showcase Saturday at 10 a.m. on the lawn.
Local writers will be present on the library lawn including Laura Conner Kestner, Lori Altebaumer, Marion Surles, Cliff Sims, Elaine Fields Smith, Ben Pate, Mac McKinnon, Suzann Thompson, Deborah Swanson, James Pylant and Jeremy and Erynn Sprouse.
The authors will be selling and signing their own works and the library will be giving away free books.
Dublin’s annual Hearts Home Reunion is also slated for Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for anyone that has ever or wanted to call Dublin home.
The event is once again hosted by the Dublin Historical Society with support from the Bank of Houston, Dublin Division.
Previously held in the Dublin High School cafeteria, the event moved to the community building, between First National Bank and Dublin Dairy Queen on the north side of town, last year and will be held there again.
Snacks and refreshments will be available as well as many annuals and photographs to reminisce over.
