Turley steps up for council

The Dublin City Council accepted the resignation of Place 3 Council member Darrell Curry and the appointment of Darren Turley to fill the unexpired term.

The unanimous vote by those present happened during the regular meeting Thursday night in which board members also discussed equipment and facilities and voted to change the credit card payment contract.

The Council unanimously voted to declare a Public Work TC33 tractor as $0 value and donate it to Dublin ISD after City Manager Bobby Mendez reported the school has been borrowing the tractor for a couple of weeks and the city has no need for it. Mendez reported that the value of the tractor was low and the district was likely to soon purchase another piece of equipment not being used by the city.

Mendez also recommended moving credit card payments to Tyler Technologies Payment Solution (who handles other services for the city already), noting that fees were significantly lower and more credit card types were accepted by Tyler. The city will need to update card readers at $419 per device but the savings in fees will pay for the purchase quickly.

Kassidy Kruse from GrantWorks was also on hand as the Council was informed Dublin is eligible for Economic Adjustment Assistance funds from the U.S. Economic Development Administration. Mendez praised GrantWorks for the work they’ve done for the city in the past in pursuing and facilitating grants and said he is looking forward to their partnership in the future.

Council members also directed to clean up the area around the former park building as Mendez noted some hazards including the drop-off at the edge of the concrete.
