The Dublin Woman’s Thursday Club had two meetings in April with the final meeting of the 2021-2022 cycle scheduled for May 2.

On April 7 the ladies met at the Dublin Historical Museum, meeting hosted by Patty Hirst. Eight members were present along with four guests including the speaker, Sheryl Rasher.

Sheryl, president of the Erath County Genealogical Society, presented the “History of the Dublin Post Office, the First Fifty Years.” Starting with how the mail first came to Dublin and then the post masters, along with a bit of background on each of them. Before Dublin developed all the rural routes, there were fifty post offices in Erath County; each small community had its own office.

Many thanks to Ben Pate for inviting and encouraging the group to use the museum for gathering. Before and after the actual meeting, all the ladies enjoyed going through the artifacts present.

Meeting at the historic home of Denise Weems, the group came together again on April 21. Ten members and two guests were present. The program began with our host talking about the history of this beautiful home built in 1895.

A wonderful program on the “History of the Dublin Volunteer Department” was presented by Denise along with a lovely handout of information and old photos for each member. The Dublin’s historic fires were chronicled; several in attendance remembered when Henderson’s Grocery burned along with other businesses attached to it.

The May meeting was set and the agenda for installation of new officers was discussed. A book shower for Tate Tiscareno wrapped up this gathering, with Tate’s mom, Thursday Club member Ellisa and grandmother, Edilsia Jimenez, watching over this handsome young man.

It was announced that the topic for programs in the 2022-2023 study cycle will continue with the history of Erath County. This has been a very educational and much enjoyed experience for all members with so much information yet to be shared.

The May 2 meeting will be in the foyer of the Dublin FUMC.
