The event will go towards medical costs as Cruz is in need of a kidney transplant.
Breakfast and coffee will be served from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. with breakfast burritos available for $6 and menudo available for $10.
A BBQ lunch will follow from noon to 4 p.m. Plates are $10, offering chicken, sausage, rice, beans and all the trimmings and includes a drink.
The event will also include a silent auction and a cake walk.
Cruz has been a resident of Erath County since 1983 and is known to many for the many years she’s worked at H-E-B and previously at Wal-Mart and Dublin Bottling Works.
“She’s been a staple of Dublin for many years,” said Erica Gomez, one of the event’s organizers.
In 2019, Cruz was diagnosed with Stage 1 Kidney Disease, and due to complications from COVID-19, she was further diagnosed with Stage 4 Kidney disease in 2021.
She requires at-home dialysis currently and is in need of a transplant to combat the disease.
According to Cruz’s grandson, Joseph Joyer, she will require at-home dialysis until the transplant is complete and afterwards, will need costly medication to ensure the transplant is a success for the rest of her life.
“My grandmother is the most selfless, caring, and generous person that I have known, but at this moment, she needs our help,” said Joyer.
Gomez encourages everyone to get some some homemade food and help. Gomez Also said they will have some great items for the auction and would welcome any donations to make it even better. Those looking to donate or for more information, can call (254) 979-5643.
