Dublin grows by annex

Body

The Dublin City Council officially annexed nearly 39 acres of land on the north side of town following a public hearing in which no comments were issued Monday night.

The annexation was made at the request of owner Mack Stewart, who wanted city services including emergency response available to all parts of the property.

The 37.848 acres includes parts of the William Thomas Survey, the W. C. Martin Survey, the C.S. Ives Survey, the E. Meisenhelter Survey and other lots. It extends from the north of Shamrock Apartments and running up Highway 377, with about 850 feet of property behind the apartment and carrying north.

The Council also held another public hearing in relation to the 2019 CDBG program as the work was about finished. City Manager Bobby Mendez reported that the work extended because money left over from the sewer line replacement went towards aeration at the wastewater treatment plant. No public comments were issued in the hearing.

The council also approved a $1,000 contract with the Gypsy Motorcycle Club to rent the City Park September 2-5. Mendez reported that the club has left the park in good condition in the past, and there have not been any security issues in past visits.

Mayor David Leatherwood also presented a resolution recognizing Dublin’s commitment to ‘Stop the Silence’ to event co-chair Jennifer Thurman in recognition of the event’s cause of promoting advocacy for victims of violence and abuse.

The Council also heard a request from Terri Greenway for a variance in installing a pre-built one-bedroom wooden home that falls below the city’s minimum footprint of 1,000 square feet. The council was amenable to Greenway’s description of the building but tabled the decision to ensure that the structure was built in accordance with the 2006 (or newer) international building code.
