Erath County officers have arrested Garrett Dale Reeves, 22, in connection with the April 9 shooting of Erath County and Hamilton County Auditor Kent Dale Reeves, 62 (the defendant’s father).

According to an arrest affidavit prepared by Texas Ranger B.J. Hill, Erath County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a property on FM 2481 in Erath in reference to a potential shooting.

Upon arrival, Trooper Hill reportedly learned from ECSO Sgt. Investigator Dustin Paulsen that Kent

Reeves has been shot approximately 15 times inside his living room and had been transported to a hospital for treatment. He was reportedly taken to a Fort Worth Hospital where he remains in critical condition and has undergone multiple surgeries.

Hill reportedly spoke to Kent’s wife, Lora Reeves, who advised that she had been asleep in an upstairs bedroom when she was awoke by a loud bang. She reportedly went downstairs to find Kent Reeves lying on the ground in pain and stating, “Your son has gone crazy and shot me!” Garrett Reeves reportedly responded, “Mom, he attacked me!”

Hill reported in the affidavit that Garrett Reeves had fled the scene after the altercation.

Hill also reported that he conducted a walkthrough of the residence and observed a number of spent rifle cartridge casings on the living room floor and bullet defects in a chair, the entry door and patio doors.

A search was issued by the Texas Rangers, and Garrett Reeves was found the next morning when he was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony. As of reporting, he was in Erath County Jail with a bond of $500,000.
