The community recognized the passing of Capt. Ben Green, also known as “Uncle Bennie.” Green, a Mississippi native, moved into Erath County in 1877, when he settled four miles east of Dublin. Green was a volunteer in the Confederate Army, stationed west of the time in Velasco, Texas.

Retiring mayor C.E. Leatherwood installed new mayor B.F. Shoemaker and four aldermen, Joe H. Fletcher, D.R. Franks, C.B. Bradberry and E. Simon Collinsworth.
Dr. H.E. Arvin, dentist, opened an office in the Sparks Hotel building. Arvin moved to Dublin from Brownwood, where he practiced dentistry for 20 years.

‘Citizens for Better Government’ candidates won five seats on the Dublin City Council with Don Blain winning Ward 1, Jerry Daniel claiming Ward 2, James Abernathy winning Ward 3, Helen Welch winning Ward 4 and Tom Sparks winning an unexpired term.

A reception was held to honor the retirement of First National Bank President John Moore. The reception also honored Terry Miller, the president of DeLeon’s First National Bank branch, who assumed the president position at the Dublin branch.
