Dublin saw an influx of visitors from across the state on Thursday and Friday as Regional powerlifting meets were held in the Roy and Lynn Neff Gym.

Dublin Athletic boosters, community members and DISD students and staff were on hand to assist as the stands were filled to witness the events. DHS hosted 330 lifters in Division 1A-3A from 55 different schools while 220 4A lifters tested their mettle in the DHS gym on Friday.

This influx led to many teams and athletes frequenting local businesses such as Granny Clark’s after working up an appetite.

Dublin and Lingleville were among those participating in the Thursday meet with both sending lifters on to the state meet and Dublin taking 4th place as a team among the 55 schools present.

The following Dublin lifters are headed to state competition in Corpus Christi on Wednesday: Celeste Alvarez (who claimed first in the 220), Mariana Ortiz (who got second in the 198), Karlie White (who got fifth in the 181) and Carla Saucedo.

Lingleville lifters heading to state include: Leslie Juarez (who claimed fourth in the 198) and Aly Macias (who got 8th in the 220).
