Several people announced their candidacies for city and county offices. They included: W.J. Miller, a 20-year Erath resident from Alabama, for district clerk; Judge W.E. Bowers of Stephenville for county judge; James Greenway of Alexander for county clerk; and Judge Lee Pipes of Dublin for county clerk.

75 years ago

March 7, 1947

An election notice was run in the Progress, announcing the following races: the mayor position held by C.E. Leatherwood, the Ward 1 council position held by F. J. Edmonds, the ward 2 position held by F.E. Perry, the ward 3 position held by A.N. Alexander and the ward 4 seat held by C.B. Bradberry.

The White Auto Store was opened under new ownership after Mark Daffern and Mack Faulkner turned over ownership to W.A. Roden.

50 years ago

March 2, 1972

A total of 11 candidates announced they were running for City Council seat. Incumbents J.P. Humphreys (ward 2), Ed Malone (ward 3) and John A. Johnson (ward 4) were being challenged by Jerry Daniel and robert Clay (ward 2), James W. Abernathy and Eddie D. Eoff (ward 3) and Helen L. Welch (ward 4). Vying for the ward 1 seat were Willard Mann, Bennie D. Whiteley and Don Blain. Tom C. Sparks signed on for a one-year unexpired term.

March 6, 1997

Plans were underway for the annual St. Patrick’s celebration. They included a fashion show with 30 residents in participation; an arts, crafts and photography show at the city park building and the Miss Dublin Not Contest in which male contestants were vying for the tiara and title of Miss Congeniality.
