The annual Comanche Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture Banquet was held on Feb. 8 at the Copperas Event Center with the following winners declared: Wilma Fleming (Cornerstone Award), Jake Escobar (Newcomer of the Year), Cliff Conway (Citizen of the Year), Billie Engel (Woman of the Year), Caden Jones (Man of the Year), Comanche County Hospital Foundation (Organization of the Year), Volleman’s Family Farm (Agriculture Family of the Year) and Sister 2 Sister Catering and Events (Business of the Year).

Filings continued for the May general elections with Mayor Rodney Craddick filing for re-election and Richard D. Buchanan, Gary Haggard and Daniel Thatcher filing for a spot in the two open City Council seats.

Ann Whitney Elementary fifth graders marked 100 days of school by dressing up as 100-year-old or wearing 100 items (like stickers) on their shirts. Pictured participating were: Joseph Marquez, Kaymden Martin, Aleena Ramirez, Anthony Najera, Bentley Flathouse, Easton Marwitz, Lindsey Ward and Owen Lozano.

Hico Mayor Eddie Needham reported that about a dozen applications had been received for the position of Hico City Administrator following the exit of Adam Niolet. Three interviews had already been reported scheduled during the Feb. 7 City Council meeting.

Planning is starting for the 2022 Comanche County Community Rehab Project set for the week of June 12-17. Over the past 23 years, the project has repaired the exteriors of 315 homes throughout the county. Home repairs are done at no cost to the homeowner is they are found to be eligible by being the owner of a permanent structure, have no plans to sell the home and have a low to moderate income level.
