On Jan. 3, Steve and Kerri Watson completed the sale of Watson’s Farm and Ranch Store to Mark and Sabrina Sellers. The store is located on the east side of Hamilton on Highway 36 and has been in the Watson family for 54 years. Mark Sellers is a third-generation farmer whose father started his fertilizer business in 1974.

The Hamilton County Youth Fair was held with several Hamilton kids doing well including: Presley Sliger (grand champion market steer), Ace Lane (grand champion market goat), Kyler Koether (grand champion market lamb) and Masyn Raibourn (grand champion market swine).

On Jan. 4, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Hume stopped a driver on Highway 281 for speeding and found the driver had a felony warrant for their arrest. Further investigation led to the seizure of narcotics and $48,500 in currency. Interviews with the people in the vehicle led to the discovery that an occupant was the victim of human trafficking and the cash was proceeds from that activity. Two subjects were arrested for charges including Trafficking of Persons, Money Laundering and Possession of Marijuana.

Hico FFA Seniors seniors Kellin Aardal and Jayden Crouch received special awards at the Hamilton County Stockshow with Aardal receiving the Jennifer Hall Memorial Award and Crouch getting the Melissa Green Memorial Award. The Hico City Council discussed the vacancy of the City Administrator position during the regular meeting. Adam Niolet, who has been in the position since 2017, said he is leaving for a post in Seminole, Texas.

Several DeLeon FFA students placed high at the 2022 Comanche County Livestock Show including: Abigail Koenig (grand champion beef heifer), Neeley Gooden (champion market steer, Hagen Hodges (champion market swine), Landon Stephens (champion market lamb), Teagan Gary (champion breeding sheep) and Blake Hodges (champion breeding swine).
