The Dublin Public Library is hosting two events on Saturday, Oct. 30.
At 10:30 a.m., a free iris workshop will be led by Peggy Tolboom. A free iris will be provided to take home. All guest are asked to bring gloves for the event.
From noon to 2 p.m. pastor Cliff Sims will be signing copies of his book, “Surviving Spiritual Stress: Biblical Solutions for Overcoming Life’s Stress Factors.”
In the book, Sims identifies common stress issues in modern-day life and offers biblically based principles for overcoming them with well-reasoned messages and related Bible passages.
Stress issues covered within the book include anger, temptation, jealousy, bitterness, lust, worry, fear, disappointment and death.
Sims revealed that many of these chapters actually started years ago as sermons that resonated with parishioners.
Sims finds the messages as relatable as any reader, saying that no human is immune from succumbing to these stressors and letting them get in the way of their relationship to God and a healthy view/relationship with the world.
As such, the book offers messages of hope, understanding that anyone can stumble on their “marathon” (as Sims describes life in the book’s introduction) but anyone can also overcome these pitfalls with proper guidance and determination.
