DISD approves buses, contracts

Body

The Dublin ISD School Board approved the purchase of two buses and renewed its agreement with 4-H during a regular meeting that lasted less than 20 minutes Monday night.

The purchase up for discussion was for two 70-person route buses with DISD Superintendent Melissa Summers reporting that the buses on country roads get a significant amount of wear and tear.

Board member James Moore asked if these buses would also be used in transport of students to extracurricular activities to which Summers’ administrative assistant, Glenna Ricks, responded that 95 percent of the time the school’s four activity buses can handle transport to events.

The school last changed out buses at the end of the 2020 school year with board member Pat Leatherwood recalling that they were changing out buses that were 13 years old at that time.

Bill Rodriguez moved to approve the purchase of the buses at around $104,000 each with Moore seconding the motion. The vote was unanimous from those in attendance. (Anjelica Salyer, Raymond Salinas and Jeff Weaver were absent.)

The board members present also unanimously approved a consent agenda that included a resolution regarding the extracurricular status of the 4-H organization and an adjunct faculty agreement with 4-H that allows Dublin student to participate in the organization.

The board were also informed that student enrollment was staying steady at 1094 (higher than the past two years but lower than three years ago) and that the school’s COVID numbers were low with 7 students and no faculty out on quarantine.
