Stray sheep were photographed wandering around Highway 220 on on the evening on Aug. 21 past the Dollar Tree and over to the Church of Christ parking lot. Numerous citizens grabbed pictures of the wandering flock before the owner was located. According to the Hico New-Review, “There was no report on how many people may have fallen asleep trying to count the animals.”

Hico ISD reported an increase in enrollment with 594 students across the district-305 at the elementary, 142 in junior high and 147 in the high school. This is an increase of 20 students from the end of the last school year.

The Hamilton Public Library offered the community a sneak peek on Aug. 19 and 20 during an open house. The new building, boasting a vaulted atrium, conference room, children’s room, genealogy suite and a collection of more than 20,000 titles, was funded through local donations and several fundraising events.

Rehearsals are underway for Hamilton Civic Theatre’s production of “Last Round-Up of the Guacamole Queens” with performances set Sept. 11, 12, 13, 17, 18 and 19at the Ross Street Theater at 108 W. Ross. This is the third and final comedy in the Verdeen Cousins Texas Trilogy that began with “The Red Velvet Cake Wars” and “Rex’s Exes.” Reservations can be made by calling 254-784-9208 or online at hamilton-theatre.org.

A DeLeon resident alerted to a potential scam after someone with a peculiar accent and claiming to be an officer called and asked the resident for the last four digits of her social security number after verifying her name and address. The caller claimed if she didn’t provide the numbers, she would be put in jail for four days. Government agencies will not call and demand identifying information.

The staff of Dublin Elementary welcomed back their students to the building boasting remodeled classrooms. DeLeon ISD reported 700 students were enrolled at the last meeting, slightly down from the end of the last school year.
