The Lingleville community will get a chance to see the school’s new cafeteria, classes and administration offices during the meet the teachers event tonight from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The new facility features: a cafeteria that seats around 300, an art room/secondary library with expansive windows; a modern science lab (which also acts as a weather safe room), equipped with a demonstration table, sinks, disposal bins and ventilation areas; a teacher’s lounge adjoining the cafeteria, a spacious kitchen with two serving lines and a new entryway/office that will act as the central entry for the entire campus.
Outdoor seating will also be available for upperclassmen outside the cafeteria and next to the playground, which is now completely obscured from the roadway.
The construction also included awnings to connect buildings, a new ADAcompliant side entrance for the old school building and a metal fence that will completely surround the campus once portable building are moved from the back.
Gates will be open for dropoff in the morning and close at 8 a.m. for the school day. (Elementary and Junior High students can be brought around the rear of the elementary and dropped off at the new cafeteria while high school students can be picked up and dropped off in the high school parking area.)
Busses will gather in a new bus lane that runs alongside the new building.
Every room is also equipped with air condition units with smart sensors that detect motion and direct air into that direction.
The building was approved by voters in a $6.75 million bond election in May 2019.
Construction on the cafeteria has been ongoing since the April 2020 groundbreaking. Although the project faced several weather and COVID-related delays, the district was still able to meet its goal of starting the 2021-2022 school year in the new facility.
