Hico News Review

Two of Hico’s well known cowboys are facing different health crisis. Cody Ohl was transported to Fort Worth from Stephenville after an infection turned into sepsis. Bobby Kerr was diagnosed with esophageal cancer and is undergoing treatment. Ohl is a six time World Champion PRCA tie down calf roper and Kerr is known for training wild mustangs and using them in specialty shows.

Photo collages of Fourth of July events were on the front page. Events mentioned on the front page were the lawnmower races sponsored by the Lone Star Mower Racing Association, a cornhole competition, street taco cookoff, live music and much more.

Comanche Chief

The Comanche Frisco Depot received a historical marker on Friday, July 9. This is one of the few remaining historical sites in Comanche and currently houses the Comanche Chamber of Commerce, serves as a meeting place for groups and other events, and is a small museum with interesting historical artifacts.

The Comanche County Commissioners Court met and discussed a long agenda in their regular Monday meeting. Items on the agenda were updated Covid numbers, independent financial audit of the county and the funding to upgrade radio repeaters and dispatch controls. The county will receive close to $170,000 in grant funding for these upgrades and a study is being conducted to find out the best locations to place the repeaters and improve radio coverage. The county has also received permission to use Totelcom and the Comanche Electric towers and six repeaters will be replaced and moved; two for the sheriff’s office, two for EMS, one for the Comanche VFD and one for the De Leon VFD.
