A Family Dollar and Dollar Tree are expected to open within the next few weeks. The stores are located on Hwy 220 and the construction company is also building an identical store in Clifton at the same time. Hico Mercantile owner, Casey Averitt, is also opening a new store called Green Canoe Outfitters. The new store will be a taproom with craft beer and feature men’s apparel, outdoor products, fishing gear men’s accessories and Hico food. Averitt hopes to have a grand opening scheduled by the end of the year.

The first annual Comanche Meat Masters Cook-off and Music Festival were in the historic downtown over the weekend. The event took place on Friday and Saturday and was a fundraiser hosted by the Comanche Organization of Businesses.

Hamilton ISD’s FFA range judging team won the national championship the week before last. This is the fourth time Hamilton’s FFA has won this title. The team competed on June 21 and was up against teams from four states. The team included Emily Eller, Alex Thiele, Ethan LeGrande and Alina Eilers.
