Cora Cemetery will be receiving a Texas Historical Marker in a special dedication ceremony on June 5 at 10 a.m.
Cora cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in Comanche County.
The community was first called “Troy” and was established on the military road from Fort Gates to Fort Phantom Hill.
The name changed to Cora when the residence applied for a post office. Cora was the first county seat of Comanche County.
The cemetery is located on FM 2486 east of Pettit. FM 1476 is closed due to bridge repairs. Those attending will need to go to FM 1702 or to Newburg to FM 2486. —submitted
