The DeLeon Chamber of Commerce held their Awards Banquet with the theme being a “Happy Days” style 50’s Drive In with carhops. The awards were held at the Festival Grounds and began at 7 pm and presentation of award winners began at 8:20 p.m.

A two vehicle crashed occurred on Highway 281 on March 12 that resulted in three helicopters for the serious injuries sustained by those involved. Two helicopters landed in near the baseball fields to transfer victims from ambulances the third landed at the scene on 281. All victims were flown to Harris Hospital in Fort Worth. Fire Department Chief Brandon Keller reported that the Buick SUV collided with a pickup truck that was travelling the opposite direction on a two lane stretch of highway on the Honey Creek Bridge and the fire department cut out one trapped occupant. Another wreck occurred on March 14 and Careflight was called again to transport one victim to Fort Worth. This wreck occurred at the intersection of Highway 220 and Highway 67. The condition of the victims from these two wrecks is unknown.
Comanche Chief
It was announced that Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Stephen Hermesmeyer is moving on to Troy ISD. The announcement was made on March 16 to the faculty. Hermesmeyer’s record for his nine years at Comanche is 61 wins and 42 losses and has recently led the Comanche Indians to 3 district titles and will be one of the best football coaches at Comanche High School. Hermesmeyer said “It’s been a tremendous nine years. Comanche is a great community with a great staff, hardworking kids and tremendous support from everyone and I’m thankful for that.”

A photo layout showed the annual Extraco Relay on Monday at the Junior High. The seventh and eighth grade boys and girls earned championships at this event. Photos included students Colter Johnson (shot put, throw of 33’5.5” placing first), Emery Parrott (first place triple jump, 27’0.5”) and seventh graders Abagail LeGrande, Norma Ortiz and Jocelyn Johnson running on the track. The eighth grade girls placed third overall.
