Erath County Judge Alfonso Campos reported that a person who received a COVID-19 vaccine at the Erath County Vaccination Center on Tuesday, March 9 died later that day.
The recipient was reportedly a woman in her 50’s.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families during this difficult time,” said Campos. “Their passing has been reported as required, to the state and federal governments.”
As of press time, the cause of death is still unknown.
According to the CDC, more than 92 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered nationally from Dec. 14 to March 8. During this period, a total of 1,637 people (0.0018%) reportedly died after receiving the vaccine.
Reporting these deaths is required and CDC and FDA physicians review each report as soon as the agencies are notified (CDC also requests medical records to further assess reports.)
Although both agencies are continuing to investigate any reports of deaths, the CDC reports “a review of available clinical information including death certificates, autopsy, and medical records revealed no evidence that vaccination contributed to patient deaths.”
