Navy Chaplain G. Weldon Gatlin was set to speak at the First Methodist Church on Oct. 15. Rev. Gatlin was a survivor of the “ill-fated Franklin”. The USS Franklin was badly damaged by a Japanese air attack in March 1945, with the loss of over 800 of the ship’s crew, becoming the most heavily damaged United States aircraft carrier to survive the war. Before entering the service Rev. Gatlin was a pastor in Grandview at First Methodist Church.

A photo on the front page of the Dublin Citizen featured Richard Loflin and Amanda Richardson working on computers in the computer lab. Ann Vaughn, Dublin’s elementary computer teacher said “We have a computer lab in which students work on reading or math skills or see stories. The older ones learn word processing skills.” The students worked with about 40 Apple MacIntosh in two different computer labs. A math lesson called “Number Munchers” resembled Pac Man, with colorful numbers and symbols and Mrs. Vaughn said “They’re learning, but they don’t realize it.”
